Lumbar facet syndrome – Treatment available in North Adelaide, Adelaide CBD and northern suburbs.
If you’re struggling with back pain, you may be suffering from a facet syndrome.
The facet joints are located in the posterior aspect of our spine, and are particularly active with extension movements. For example, leaning backwards will aggravate symptoms if someone is suffering from a lumbar facet syndrome.
Lumbar facet syndrome occurs when the facet joints are inflamed. Some of the causes of this can include poor posture for prolonged periods, wear and tear of the spine with age, and acute or longstanding trauma to the spine. The symptoms can be a sharp and pinching pain, and may even cause some referral pain into the buttocks of the back of the thigh. This referred pain can be due to inflammation of the joint and its surrounding tissue, which can then irritate the sciatic nerve. Stiffness and difficulty with movements is also commonly seen in facet syndromes.
