Tennis elbow is also known as lateral epicondylitis. Epicondylitis means ‘inflammation of the epicondyle’ – this is essentially what is happening in tennis elbow. The inflammation of the lateral epicondyle (the “outside” side of the elbow) region leads to pain in the forearm extensor muscles. This can be especially painful when doing activities that require use of our forearm extensors. For example, manual work and sports can be very aggravating.
North Adelaide Chiropractic can help with your tennis elbow. Our wide variety of treatment methods and holistic approach means that we focus on treating the whole problem, not just one aspect of it.
To treat tennis elbow, we need to look at both the soft tissues and the joints of the area. Dry needling, Graston techniques and trigger point therapies all work well to settle the inflamed soft tissues and muscles in the lateral epicondyle region.
Chiropractic treatment can also help with the joints – this includes any restricted joints in the wrist and elbows. If these joints are stiff from tennis elbow, chiropractic adjustments and mobilisations can help to greatly improve range of movement.
Last of all, at North Adelaide Chiropractic we aim to prevent recurrence of these injuries. Dr Joshua will make sure to give advice and prescribe home exercises to keep your body in top form.
If all else fails, there are alternative treatment methods for tennis elbow. Cortisone injections are one such method and will be discussed with you as an option if needed.
